2017 northern snakeheads have arrived in our water, go get them all!!!!

2017 northern snakeheads have arrived in our water, go get them all!!!! Fished from 12 noon to 4pm and caught a 26 inches (66 cm) big mama northern snakehead! Eliminated 100K eggs (baby snakeheads) from the Roaches Run and Potomac river. It was very windy, and she bit my firetiger crankbait super hard. My 30 pounds braided line responded to her well. She was hooked immediately, and she started the fight and finished in 4 rounds of fight and dive. She bent my rod like crazy, and luckily my rod held on and my newly installed braided line held on to the fight. She was still fighting after I netted her. What an amazing sports fish to catch! If you cannot go out to catch it yourself, then watch my video for live action and see how she put up a good fight with me. It was incredible. Don't miss the 80+ pictures slide show at the end of the video. I added a ton of captions to explain the fight. Trust me - it will be very rewarding if you watch the whole video.Click here to watch this snakehead catch video My crankbait and braided line will be displayed here:

We need a contour line map for Roaches Run Lake by DC Reagan Airport - 4 tools to choose

Let's google the internet and could not find a contour map for Roaches Run lake. So, time to do our own contour map for fishing. Follow alone to see how we do it.
First stepWe need to invest money to buy a contour map drawing Fishfinder. Thanks to many companies who make the lake contour drawing tools available for free as long as you buy their fishfinder. It used to be a royal pain in the butt to do this. We found it out after we bought our first Raymarine fishfinder - a nice 7 inches Dragfly 7 (no wifi - should have bought that feature so we can view it from anywhere in our boat instead of just sitting down from the boat console). Watch our review video and amazing sonar images that we captured using this powerful and easy to use Raymarine Dragonfly 7" fishfinder with down vision technology -
Step 2. Awesome FREE tools to draw contour map for your own favorite body of water - Roaches Run for me. We will start with these:
Option 1. Garmin Quickdraw Contours - it is easy to use. Don't need to upload sonar chart to any websites like the Navionics. It instantly creates your own personalized HD fishing maps with 1 foot contours on screen for Echomap series fishfinder.
Option 2. Humminbird AutoChart Live - It creates detailed maps of your favorite fishing spots in real-time with Humminbird®'s patent pending AutoChart® Live, a free feature available with ONIX and HELIX 9, 10 & 12 Series fishfinder.
Both tools create contour map instantly on their fishfinders without uploading sonar logs to their websites nor waiting for them to process. Contour maps are instantly created. Kudos to both Humminbird and Garmin for making these tools free to fishermen like us.
Option 3.
Navionics Sonarchart Live in smartphone apps (Boating app). You can create your own Contour map a.k.a. Bathymetry mapright on your smart phones or mobile device as long as your fishfinder sonar is connected wirelessly to your smart phones or mobile device. It will create Bathymetry map instantly. No need to upload for processing no need to share and you can keep your own fishing spots private just like the first 2 options.
Option 4. Insight Genesis works with Lowrance Simrad B&G and even your own PC
This tool is cloud based processing and storage to create your own contour map
This is an old marketing technology and NOT totally free. You also have to share your private fishing spots so not the best option for Contour map drawing to create your own contour map. Not a good option, that is why we listed it as the last option.

Roaches Run winter bass fishing by DC Reagan National airport - pulled like a snakehead

Roaches run winter bass fishing - test drive in water the Chinese made CPT-60 transducer for Raymarine dragonfly 7 inches purchased from ebay The down vision fish images look too small compared to the chirp sonar when I split the 2 views on the screen. Here is the broadband chirp CPT-60 transducer and the Raymarine dragonfly 7 I own. Never the less it did help me identify the fish (where and how deep) so I don't need to cast to them blindly and so I was able to use the right lure to catch this amazing 18 inches long and 5.5 inches wide large mouth bass in winter. The water temperature was 47 degrees at the shallow end and by the tunnel into Gravelly point underneath the George Washington Parkway. It was 53 degrees Fahrenheit at the warm water discharge from Pentagon area. I was doing wacky rig bottom fishing and got no bites. I found the fish by the warm water discharge (water was 53 instead of 47 degrees Fahrenheit) and saw fish suspending in the 3-5 feet. I immediately switched the crank bait and was able to land this big bass. I was not anchored so it pulled me around for one and 1/4 turns until I netted it. Bass always jump in summer time, but it didn't even jump once and pulled like a snakehead. Here is the rapala lure I used.

best winter fishing spot - four mile run - caught a monster bass today

We fished from 1:!5pm to 4:30pm at four mile run and caught this big fat boy (21 inches and 4 pounds) just under the bridge between DC Reagan National airport and Washington Sailing Marina in Alexandria VA. We went up river and fished hard for 2 hours in the shallow up stream area but didn't even have a bite. We saw people were catching small fish and fly fishermen were wading in the river at the sewer plant discharge. They didn't catch anything when we were there. We went down river to the deeper part, hoping to catch a snakehead. We didn't catch one and we almost got skunk. We caught this big fat boy at 4:25pm and we called it a quit. It was 50 degrees Farenheit and 8 miles per hour wind. A lovely sunday winter afternoon. We left just enough time to get home to watch the 2017 super bowl. Never give up, we fished hard and didn't catch a fish until 3 hours later. This monster fish came and bit our lure.

Amazing catch at Roaches Run by DC Reagan National airport

This was my first 2017 bass! Oh yea! caught on January 15, 2017 Sunday Went fishing from 1:30pm-4pm, caught one winter bass 12 inches, 3 shrimps, 1 plastic bag and 1 beer bottle. The Roaches Run lake seems to be clean and healthy, because there are fish and even shrimps in there. I hooked up a plastic bag, and picked up a beer bottle so less poison for the lake and more room for the fish and shrimps to grow and survive. This is my first time catching shrimps. I caught not one but 3 shrimps - LOL and amazing. They crawled out of the dirty plastic bag I hooked up. I always leave the plastic bag in my canoe and take them to the garbage bin instead of throwing it back. So, try saving our earth by picking up bottles, plastic bags etc. when you go fishing and boating. You may be surprised by saving our lake and our earth. Wind was calm less than 5 miles. Temperature was up to 47 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius). 2 people catfishing at the discharge. Wacky rig set up with sinker bottom fishing is the way to go. Subscribe because I will bring my fish finder to try to find where the fish is hiding in winter time. 95% of the Roaches Run has no fish just like most lake and body of water. Especially in winter time, they tend to seek warmer area of the lake so it has to be deep. Surface lures just would not work in the winter time.
